THE book Zarathushtra and the Religion of Ancient Iran – the Greek and Latin Sources in Translation, printed thanks to the donation from the Erach and Roshan sadri Foundation was launched on 20 December 2007. Edited by Dr Phiroze Vasunia, the book was launched by Mr Tony Mango, Honorary Consul General of Greece in Mumbai.

If yes, please brief details and a breakdown of how the grant was used.
a. Rs.7,00,000/- spent on conservation and restoration of our Institute’s manuscripts and rare books through the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH). Sixty-six manuscripts and rare books comprising of 15,282 folios were restored and conserved in their original form.
b. Rs. 96,720/- for printing the research project of Dr. Vasunia on ”Zarathushtra and the Religion of Ancient Iran – The Greek and Latin Sources in Translation.”
c. Rs. 28,646/- for holding three public lectures and for conducting twenty lectures for the World Religion Course.
d. Rs.7,75,000/- towards repairs to the building foundation and replacing the damaged flooring on the ground floor in the Modi Hall of the Institute.

5. Please comment briefly on the value of the grant to your organisation and how it has affected the work you undertake.
The grant received from the Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation has enabled us to carry out various projects / repairs work as mentioned under :
a. The fourth phase of preservation and restoration of our manuscripts and old and rare books also would have not been possible otherwise. The heritage of both the community and nation which resides in our library has been preserved now for posterity. In this phase 66 manuscripts and books, (15,282 folios), etc. were conserved.
b. Repairs to the foundation and the damaged flooring on the ground floor in the Modi Hall of the Institute was carried out, thereby giving a new lease of life to the foundation of our building.
c. The World Religions Course has helped students understand their brethren from other religions better and look upon them with greater understanding and respect.
d. Lectures were educational and created an awareness of different religious practices and the environment.
e. Research projects and young scholars were given encouragement in this area.
6. Has the grant enabled you to attract other funds/resources either for this work
or for other aspects of the organisation? Please give details.
The Institute regularly receives books as donation for its library. Monetary donations in small amounts have been received for various objects of the Institute amounting to Rs.1,50,000/-.
7. Please briefly give further information about the long-term funding of the work
supported by the Erach and Roshan Sadri Foundation, if not already covered.
a. The Institute still needs to preserve and conserve around 1500 manuscripts apart from old and rare printed books, maps, etc.
b. The Institute building needs to be repaired and renovated.
c. World Religions Course and regular lectures promoting oriental studies be continued.
d. The library and reference/research infrastructure need to be up dated.
